Joint Council 32 Drive

Don GerdesmeierJoint Council 32 DRIVE (Democrat Republican Independent Voter Education) is our Council's political committee, working for legislation in Minnesota and Iowa that will help Teamster members and endorsing candidates who will fight for working families. Don Gerdesmeier (left) is Joint Council 32 DRIVE's political director and DRIVE Representative.

SETTING THE TEAMSTER AGENDA

Health care, Social Security, transportation, education, pension reform, workers' rights...these are a few of the critical issues that are being debated every day on federal and state levels.  Joint Council 32 DRIVE works with elected officials on federal, state and local levels to get our message across and defend our rights. This effort can only be successful if we elect legislators who will listen to our message.

2007 JOINT COUNCIL 32 DRIVE ENDORSEMENTS

THE ENDORSEMENT PROCESS

Joint Council 32 DRIVE'S activities are supported by contributions from our active and retired members.  We endorse candidates after they complete a questionnaire and a personal interview with our screening committee, made up of our DRIVE Commission and, at times, other Joint Council 32 officers and business agents.

Since the Teamsters are famously independent, our endorsements span the political spectrum.  These endorsements serve as recommendations to our members.  We encourage opportunities for our members to interact with candidates as part of our endorsement process.

What does a Joint Council 32 DRIVE endorsement bring to a candidate?   It brings the strength of 65,000+ Teamsters.  While we offer financial support, our best contribution is the support of our politically engaged membership.  The Joint Council 32 DRIVE Commission and Teamster members campaign for endorsed candidates, keeping the members informed of candidates' positions on labor issues.  Not only do Teamsters vote, we volunteer to work on campaigns, attend political conventions and talk to our families and neighbors to get out the vote. Our success in electing pro-labor leaders will help determine the quality of life enjoyed by the next generation of working Americans.
