Johnson began his Teamster career in Detroit, Michigan in 1950, where he started the pension and health and welfare funds for Teamster giant James R. Hoffa at Local 299. He then worked at the International Brotherhood of Teamsters’ headquarters in Washington, DC, prior to his move to Minnesota in 1971 to work for Joint Council 32. He created and developed the Joint Council 32 Research Department, and in the early 1980’s began editing the Joint Council 32 Newspaper. Following his retirement from full-time employment in 1989, Johnson continued to edit the Teamsters Joint Council 32 Newspaper with a distribution to over 60,000 Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota active and retired Teamsters. Duane Johnson was known in Teamster communication circles nationally. His rich history and wealth of knowledge of the Teamster organization will be profoundly missed by the Joint Council 32 officers and staff and the entire Teamster organization. Mr. Johnson’s survivors include his daughter Sarah Johnson and his grandson Samuel Lubell of New York City; sister Juanita Moll and her husband Carl of Lewiston, Michigan, nephews Gary (Diane) Moll, Glen (Irene) Moll and Gaylen (Susan) Moll, and brother Roger Johnson and wife Jeanne of Davie, Florida. |
